Effective non-violent discipline strategies for our children and students:
Developing effective psychological approaches in Timor-Leste

Where: Training Room, Alola Foundation, Rua Bispo de Medeiros, Mascarenhas, Dili

This event will offer information from the field of psychology about effective non-violent behavioural strategies that can be used by teachers and parents to discipline students in the classroom and children in the home. These strategies are important as they can lay the foundation for non-violent social relationships and social harmony. The event also seeks to identify people who are interested in forming a Psychology Interest Group to support the development of the profession of psychology in Timor-Leste.

Presenter: Dr. John Toumbourou, PhD, Professor and Chair in Psychology, School of Psychology, and Associate Dean, Faculty of Health, Deakin University Australia. Executive Member of the Asian Psychological Association. Professor Toumbourou is an expert on child and adolescent healthy development and the prevention of problems such as violence, substance abuse and mental health disorders. john.toumbourou@deakin.edu.au

Who Should Attend?: Professional staff, teachers, psychologists and people who wish to develop their skills in working with children and families, and those interested in developing the profession of psychology in Timor Leste.

This forum will be presented in English with interpretation into Tetun. It is presented by Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia in collaboration with Many Hands International.
