Public Forum: Working with Communities Through the Arts, January 2011

Many Hands International seeks to promote skills and expertise around culture based community development. In January 2011, MHI held a public forum in partnership with the State Secretariat of Culture entitled 'Working with Communities Through the Arts".

Presentations were made by:

  •     Sra Cecilia Assis, National Director of Culture. Sra Assis detailed the current and future activities of her department.
  •     Meelky, Youth Participation Officer, PLAN International. Meelky spoke about PLAN's mobile music recording project with young people in Lospalos and Aileu.
  •     Kim Dunphy, researcher and Director, Many Hands International. Kim presented some findings from her PhD research project about the role of arts in communities in Timor-Leste (view Kim's research presentations).
  •     Gillian Howell, Asialink resident. Gillian spoke about her project making music with communities in Baucau and Lospalos. Gillian’s blog provides with information from her presentation.
