MHI students hold exhibition in Dlii

Wednesday 03/10/18 - Wednesday 03/10/18

My Family, My Culture' Youth Arts Exhibition in Dili, Timor-Leste

On the 28th of September 2018, students from MHI's Vida Arte Galeria showcased their artwork at a special exhibition titled 'My Family, My Culture' in Dili, the capital city of Timor Leste.

Media included glass painting, lino prints, paper mache and styles such as portraits and landscapes. A number of pieces from MHI's Portrait Avo project were also displayed. The opening night was a huge success with many coming to view the students work. A number of sales were also made with profits supporting the young artists creative practice and the art program in 2019.

Six senior students made the trip to Dili to install the exhibition, assist with coordinating the event and to represent their peers on at the opening night. In a debriefing session with students,  all six felt that they had experienced something special, they all expressed they were inspired and took away many new learnings and new insights, they felt valued by the wider Timorese and arts community and had gained many new connections to professional artists via the networking opportunity.

We thank the Xanana Reading room for hosting the exhibition and extend a special thanks to Volunteer Services Abroad New Zealand for sponsoring the event.
