Engaging Communities Through Theatre workshop, July 2011

In partnership with Ba Futuru, Many Hands International hosted a two-day professional development workshop on engaging communities through theatre at the Faculty of Education at the National University of Timor-Leste in Dili. This was held as part of Victoria University's conference Knowledge,  Attitudes and Skills. The workshop was led by experienced theatre maker Catherine Simmonds, who was in Timor-Leste as an Asialink resident working with Many Hands International.

Activities assisted participants to:

  • Understand the relevance of the arts to the community sector.
  • Learn accessible, effective and interactive methods for working with groups.
  • Identify and explore issues through a creative process.
  • Use theatre as a way of connecting the community.
  • Take risks with respect and safety in mind.
