Turtle shell jewellery (ke'u ke'u fa'i)
Turtle shell handicraft, ke'u ke'u fa'i, including bracelets, rings and earrings, were amongst the items being produced by craftspeople in aldeia Pitileti, Tutuala sub-district. Making jewellery from turtle shells is time consuming and requires different tools. Six craftspeople were identified as making handicrafts from turtle shells; five women and one man aged between 40 to 62 in the sub-district of Pitileti, Tutuala who worked as farmers and teachers. Turtles are now protected species, so there are limitations on the way in which turtles can be used for handicraft.
